Authentic Indian Cooking School

This is me, Vanisha Baker, and I'm the chef and owner of The Thali Cookery School.  I learnt to cook traditional Indian food from a very young age with family recipes handed down from my Granny to my Mum and then to me.  I absolutely love to cook and in my courses you will get the opportunity to learn a number of the recipes that I have eaten all my life.  I will teach you how to use and combine traditional Indian spices and then you will cook your own dishes to take home at the end of the day. 

Indian food can be tailored to all palates (dishes don't have to be spicy hot!) and I also provide guidance on how to make the recipes suitable for children.

Meat Thali Course - £120 per person

In our Meat Thali course you will learn how to cook seven Indian dishes that come together to create a complete Meat based Thali. 

  • Maximum of four people per class

  • Learn how to cook seven dishes

  • Take home detailed recipe cards and enough food for a dinner for four

  • Menus can be adjusted to incorporate gluten and dairy free options

  • Weekdays 10am-2pm (other times may be available on request)

Vegan Thali Course - £100 per person

In our Vegan Thali course you will learn how to cook seven Indian dishes that come together to create a complete Vegan based Thali. 

  • Maximum of four people per class

  • Learn how to cook seven dishes

  • Take home detailed recipe cards and enough food for a dinner for four

  • Menus can be adjusted to incorporate gluten free options

  • Weekdays 10am-2pm (other times may be available on request)

Taster Class - £50 per person
(promotional price)

In our Taster Class you will learn how to cook a small number of dishes and gain a basic understanding of combining Indian herbs and spices. 

  • Maximum of four people per class

  • Learn how to cook three dishes

  • Take home detailed recipe cards and enough food for a dinner for four

  • Menus can be adjusted to incorporate vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options

  • Weekdays 10am-12pm (other times may be available on request)

Parent & Child Workshop - £65 per pair

This workshop is aimed at children aged 8-13 who would attend with an adult to learn the basics of Indian cooking and to also have a go at preparing a number of dishes themselves.  Sessions will be run through the school holidays.

  • Maximum of three parent/child pairs per class

  • Learn how to cook three dishes

  • Take home detailed recipes cards and enough food for a dinner for four

  • Menus can be adjusted to incorporate vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options

  • Weekdays 10am-12pm (other times may be available on request)

Samosa Workshop - £50 per person

This workshop will teach you how to make your own samosas from scratch.  You will make the pastry dough, the filling, roll the dough, fill and fold and then fry them.  A more healthier oven baked method is also available.

  • Maximum of four people per class

  • Take home detailed recipes cards and make 10-12 samosas

  • Menus can be adjusted to incorporate vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options

  • Weekdays 10am-12pm (other times may be available on request)
